The “Me Too” Syndrome

When our children were younger, they very easily fell into what I call the “me too” syndrome.  If one of them was getting a horsey-ride from dad or being thrown up into the air or playing some crazy game that we play with our kids, one of them would come along and say, “Me too!”  If Kim and I were caught giving each other a hug in the kitchen, one or more of them would come along and have to join the hug.  No one wanted to be left out.

Believe it or not, the same is true now with our pets. If Mabel our dog sees us petting our cat, Duchess, Mabel comes along and gets in the middle. And visa-versa. It’s as if they’re saying, “Me too!”  Worse yet is that, if they catch Kim and I hugging, one of them has to get in the middle.  Yes, even our pets have developed the “me too” syndrome.

When Jesus was on this earth, we find that there were a lot of people coming to him with the “me too” syndrome. Wherever he went, there were those who flocked to him, reaching out to him; some even chasing him down. All kinds of people in need of healing, forgiveness, and love came to Jesus saying, in essence, “me too!” And, the Bible says that “When he saw the crowds he had compassion on them…..” (Matthew 9:36 – NIV).  In fact, he put out an invitation: “”Come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.”  (Matthew 11:28 – NIV)  Jesus didn’t want anyone to be left out. He loved all and invited all to come to him.  He promoted the “me too” syndrome.

You and I don’t need to stand on the sidelines watching Jesus “hug” others. We don’t need to merely watch as the Lord ministers to the lives of other people. Rather, he invites each of us to come to him and receive his forgiveness, his grace, his love, his salvation, his healing. He invites us to say, “me too!” As we do, he will put his arms of grace around us and minister to us at our point of need.

Why not come to Jesus today and say to him, “me too,” allowing him to touch your life? He loves you and will never turn you away.

Have a great day!
